Teen Focus encourages education

​​The team at Teen Focus understands more than most the importance of securing and encouraging education. Endless research shows that education can not only change and improve the prospects for people, communities, entire nations, and the future of humanity, but it can help grassroots problems such as social divide and unrest.

​The United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development is adopted by all UN member states and provides a blueprint for peace and prosperity for people and the planet well into the future. There are 17 sustainable development goals, one of which is education. It’s well known -that education drives change, long-term economic growth, improved health, livelihoods, and social stability. Education is also key to achieving the other essential sustainable development goals, including no poverty, zero hunger, gender equality, decent work, and economic growth, reducing inequalities, providing sustainable cities and communities, all while tackling climate change, and preserving our oceans and forests.

​According to the Global Partnership for Education, seven key elements proved to be positively affected by education.

1. Studies show that each year of schooling and further education can increase lifetime earnings by approximately 10 percent. Interestingly, for girls, this can be a staggering 20 percent.
2. Each year of additional education for mothers reduces infant mortality rates by up to 10 percent. 
3. A child with a mother who can read is 50 percent more likely to live past their 5th birthday.
4. Education makes entire nations wealthier. Each additional year of school for children within a particular nation will help grow the annual domestic product by almost 0.40 percent, resulting in billions of dollars. 
5. Education builds peace. For every 10 percent above the average national education level, the risk of war and conflict is reduced by 3 percent. 
6. Investing in the provision of education to girls in Sub-Saharan Africa can increase food production by 25 percent. 
7. If all students in low-income countries could leave school with at least basic reading skills, this would lift 171 million people out of poverty.
